Margaret Snowdon joins HM Treasury’s dashboard steering group
Margaret Snowdon will represent the pensions industry on the HM Treasury’s steering group for the pensions dashboard prototype project
Margaret Snowdon, chair of the Pensions Administration Standards Association (PASA) has been appointed by HM Treasury to the senior level steering group for the pensions dashboard prototype project. The project was launched by the economic secretary to the Treasury, Simon Kirby at Aviva’s Digital Garage on the 12th September.
Commenting on the launch, Kirby said: “Technology, like mobile phone apps, has made day to day banking easier than it’s ever been and it is time for pensions to catch up. Think of a future where you can compare your pension pots with the touch of a button.”
The group will oversee the development of a prototype dashboard to test the technology and also finalise its governance framework.
Margaret will be one of two independent members of the steering group and will represent the pensions industry, providing insight and challenge to this hugely important national initiative.
To put such a system together brings some clear data and administrative challenges and the timeframe is short
Commenting on the appointment, Snowdon said: “A pensions dashboard is a platform allowing any individual to see all their pensions pots in one place and, therefore, empower them to plan for the retirement in a much more practical and effective way – this can only be a good thing. However, to put such a system together brings some clear data and administrative challenges and the timeframe is short, with the first prototype to be ready by March 2017.
The appointment also compliments Snowdown’s current work at PASA. She said: “At PASA we are very supportive of the dashboard concept and we are dedicated to devoting our time and energy to helping both administrators and schemes plan for their important role in a future dashboard or dashboards.”
